One neighbourhood, top to bottom.
Haret el-Waz is a made-up Cairo quarter: nine zones stacked from the roofs to the drains.

On the roofs
Rooftops At launch
Laundry lines, water tanks, pigeon lofts and the best view of everyone's business.
- Rooftop Gardens Season 8
Green roofs, a gardener who means well and the pigeon towers.
In the street
- Café Court At launch
Tea glasses, tawla boards, a waiter with a tray and an owner who has seen it all.
- Bakery Lane At launch
Racks of fresh bread, flour sacks and a courier with a tray on his head. Dawn is its moment.
- Car Wash At launch
Foam, buckets, a coiled hose and a tuk-tuk with a horn. The dog's playground.
Market Alley At launch
Orange pyramids that roll, a foul cart, a sugarcane press and striped awnings.
Corniche Season 5
The Nile, winter gulls, a corn seller, a jogger and sweet-potato carts.
Museum Season 4
A cat statue wakes up. Night openings, sleepy guards and a sealed tomb, where any mummy is a costume.
Under it all
The Under Season 2
Cool tunnels, pipes and drains, with street grates that drop you in and pop you out.

The street dog has opinions.
Now everyone’s arguing.
The tray wobbles.
The street remembers you
People, animals and places keep a memory of your animal from one session to the next. The baker knows what you did.
A clock that runs
Shifts change, traffic moves and the light goes from dawn to night. Vehicles always stop for animals.
People, not enemies
Humans get exasperated, never hostile. Nobody is hurt, nothing is thrown at animals. If the van catches you, the worst you get is a silly cone collar at the vet’s back door.
Inside and hidden
School courtyard rooms, museum halls, the old cinema, the pigeon towers and a sealed tomb all open with their seasons.
Pictures are from the game in development.
